Band parents – and in particular, parents of band students who take world languages – please ask your children to request a mock schedule and then share it with us (or at least just let us know what class is being scheduled opposite band). You can send that information to email@example.com.
Here’s why: there are currently 63 students enrolled in band. About 2/3 of them take a world language class. There are one or more band students in every world language class: Spanish 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5, German 1, 2, 3 & 4 and French 1, 2, 3 & 4. If you look at any one of those languages, it is not possible to schedule every language class in the A/B block opposite band.
This suggests that some students who can take band and a language under the current schedule will not be able to take band and a language under the new schedule. (There may be multiple A/B blocks, but there are only so many A/B class offerings – if band is offered during one A/B block and the language your child wants is offered in another, then your child would have to choose two more from a limited selection of A/B classes – like AP classes or ag classes).
We plan to ask the administration about this soon, but won’t expect concrete answers until scheduling moves farther along. In the meantime, it would be instructional to know if mock schedules are realistic.
